KANSL1, also known as KAT8 Regulatory NSL Complex Subunit 1, is a protein that plays a crucial role in chromatin regulation and gene expression. It is a component of the Non-Specific Lethal (NSL) histone acetyltransferase (HAT) complex, which acetylates histone proteins, especially histone H4 at lysine 16 (H4K16ac), a modification associated with transcriptional activation and chromatin remodeling. KANSL1 helps regulate gene expression by altering chromatin structure, with the NSL complex targeting specific genomic regions to promote an open chromatin state and enhance transcription.
